may is my favorite month

garden3.JPG

May is my month. Mothers Day, my birthday, and then my mom's birthday all in the space of two weeks. Plus, May has May baskets ... and the best weather.

We play it pretty cool on Mothers Day. Handmade cards. A joint present from my three guys — something for the garden.

Since my birthday quickly follows Mothers Day, and I lay claim to the whole month, I usually get a camping trip or a kayaking trip, too. My favorite present is a great memory.

So what are you guys doing this weekend?

Happy May-month to you! I like the May-weather as well (or at least: this year...) and get outside with the children a lot!
About my mothers-day: I'm not so into that. To me it's restrictive to celebrate my motherhood at this day particular: I'm a mother every day...! Another thing I pity about it, is that it's getting so commercial. On the other hand: you're free to choose the way you celebrate it, but besides all of that we don't celebrate it because my husband leaves on that particular day for a 16-days during trip to Costa Rica and what's a mothersday without a father?
Wish you a happy mothersday though and a great anniversary!

We have a birthday on Saturday for my son who's turning 7...sniff. Mother's day is breakfast in bed, new magazines, and lunch out at a cafe.

May 'flowers' for you on so many levels, how fun. A promise of camping is an awesome gift. I'm wishing for a long bike + buggy adventure to a local island, ferry and all...

Hanging out at our future kindergarten. The real fun happens the next weekend when I get to leave the kids at home and spend the day with BitterBetty up at a sustainable fabric store. Woo wee, fun times.

i think we are going to do the same thing that we did last year--wake up early, buy some picnic food at the market, and head to a state park with the kids. my mom and brother are going to be in town from texas as well. o presents. just hugs and kisses and laughs and rolling around in the grass.

happy birthday to you. I love May too, Mother's day is getting to be quite an occasion with three of my four children working and therefore able to plan some very nice surprises. The best part is getting them all together.

thanks, alison! :^)

aw, getting together with all your children - now that's a great present. :^)

Mother's Day round here is almost always something outside: like a picnic or a long walk or something. I love to be outside, but the rest of the family is not so keen, so they give me what I like that weekend.

We don't celebrate a whole lot, but those "happy mother's day, we love you"s are nice to get, even if it is a little commercial. If having a hallmark holiday helps them remember to communicate their positive feelings toward me, I'm all for it! *wink*

whatever we do it will be outside, that's what *i* want. bike, hike, beach....anything outside.

i will also hopefully honor my mommasita in they way i treat my children and those around me...she lives to far to really *do* anything for her and it's too late for a card :) so i hope my actions and the lessons she taught me will speak louder than words....

i find i play mothers day down because it is a tricky balance for me to strike between my mother in law's requests to be with her son, [we live fairly close to my in laws] and my desire to be with just my husband and girls...so i don't feel terribly disappointed in the flow of the day i try not to get my hopes up and channel my mothers day energies/feelings toward *my* mom and maybe one day my children will want to do the same without any pressure. maybe they won't and that will be okay too [i think] and if not, then i just deal with those feelings then :) hmmmm. long comment for a little question :)

megan, i agree - it may be commercialized, but it's pretty easy to avoid that part of the holiday and just take a moment to appreciate each other - your mom, and the wonderful people who helped you become a mom. ;^)

anneke - sorry you'll be missing your husband - but i hope you enjoy this beautiful month, and thank you for the good wishes!

sam - happy birthday to your son :^D and your mother's day sounds niiiiice. ;^)

susana - yes, camping is the best! i don't know, though, because this week has been wet and cold. oh well, we will find something fun to do. :^) and a bike trip to an island sounds fantastic!

michelle - that sounds like a great weekend with bitterbetty - w00t!

sachi - that sounds like my perfect day. :^)

sarah - i know what you mean about expectations and balancing what *all* the different generations of moms want from the day. ;^) you can follow my lead and claim the whole month - that way, you can enjoy your own particular day whenever you like! xoxo & i hope you have a good one. :^)

mothers day is the perfect day to do whatever you want and not feel guilty about it. we are heading up to our cabin, its been three months since we visited, my eye surgery prevented any altitude changes. your garden looks lovely lori! i plan on planting a cutting garden for my mom for mothers day rather than giving her cut flowers. i bought her a garden book and she is making a list of the flowers i will plant for her, she is so excited!
happy birthday too!

May I say ... i love your garden there. lamb's ears and those purple spiky ball things. (you can tell I'm such a gardener)

Happy days to you, both Mother's and birth anniversary. Enjoy your month!

hi nicki - thank you! and belated happy mother's day wishes to you! you need to celebrate your *half* birthday - beautiful weather, half a cake - how could you pass that up?! ;^)

leslie, the cabin sounds great - and i love the idea of giving your mother a cutting garden. beautiful! the picture is a bit of the herb garden - herbs are my favorites. :^)

hi molly, thank you! those purple spiky ball flowers always make me think of dr. seuss - they're garlic chives. :^) hope you have a wonderful weekend - our may weather, which is usually the most beautiful of the year (i think!), has been cold and overcast and rainy - boo! but the garden is loving it, so i guess it will be a beautiful june. :^)

Lori, I love May too. I also have a May birthday--and I think it is the best month to have one. My Dad, who has a May birthday as well, says all the important people are born in May. So there you have it!

We went to church this morning, the family took me out to a Chinese restaurant, we are all "resting" now (bliss), and then we plan to take a LONG walk/bike ride. Hope you are having a happy day!

jill, it is the best birthday month! ;^) happy birthday to you and your dad - my mom's birthday is also in may, a week after mine!

sounds like your day was wonderful - unfortunately we had miserable weather, but we managed to have some cozy indoor fun and we're planning on doing something special later this week.

enjoy our month! xo
